Rabies in China

You might find this reply to jmb's comment of interest. Rabies is on the rise in China with 2 000 people dying of the disease each year. Recently, a county in south western China has killed 50 000 dogs after 3 people died of rabies.

My goodness, that is terrible. 2000 deaths each year. Since all the dogs here are vaccinated, rabies usually passes to humans via bats, but those exposed get the rabies immune globulin injections. Sadly, in our hospital, we had a young 25 yr old male die of rabies because he ignored the bat bite and did not seek help till he developed symptons and came to our ER.

What terrible news this is, there are some many sad stories coming out of China.

JMB's story is very sad too, I don't know what the figures are for the UK.
