Poor old giraffe!

This is what happened to poor old Marius.  No wonder the zookeeper is receiving death threats.

I know. I admit to being very upset when I first heard about this, but on the other hand there was the risk of inbreeding if he had stayed and I guess the other options were not practical. I suppose in the wild, this happens all the time, but even so...........

Saw the zookeeper on Channel 4 News. Can't understand why Marius couldn't have been kept apart or had 'the operation'. Somehow the poor beasts death seems rather gratuitous

I was shocked by this story too. Such a pity that a young and beautiful animal had to go that way but I suppose in the wild he would have been fair game for the lions etc. At least he had 2 easy years before his untimely end. I'm still upset at the thought of it though.

As children we are taught that zoos save animals endangered or not. Zoos educate us about animals. Zoos protect animals from starvation, poachers, predators and loss of environment. So basically animals are save in zoos where they live in captivity. And then this happens. Recently a rare snow leopard got out of its enclosure here in Belgium in an animal sanctuary and the keeper made no attempt to capture it. He just shot it dead. He later said he was afraid to be eaten alive!!!!

I can accept that in the wild any animal even man is fair game but in a zoo no, he was bred for the public to view and so should have been cared for not used as an object of utility. No it was wrong the animal did not deserve to be used in this way. Beware man it will happen to us thankfully I will be under the sod by then.
